Plastic straw ban and what It means for Alcolizer WM4

As of September 1st 2021, The Queensland Government have introduced a ban on the sale or supply of single-use plastic straws, stirrers, plates, bowls, cutlery and expanded polystyrene takeaway food containers and cups to fight the growing problem of plastic waste and pollution.

The ban applies to all Queensland business and non-for-profit organisations, excluding businesses exempt in order to provide for people with disability or healthcare needs.

While this has caused some concern for the straws used for Alcolizer Technology’s Wall Mount 4 devices, we can confirm that the ban on single-use plastic straws refers to straws used to consume food or beverages.

The ban does not extend to single-use plastic straws that are used for breathalyser or drug testing equipment or that may be used in laboratories and other applications.

Alcolizer Technology are committed to investigating environmentally responsible solutions related to our products and services.

We offer sustainably sourced paper straws compliant to FCS regulations.
