How did the French do it?

After watching and being a part of the Paris action these last few weeks it ponders the question – are we protecting the health of our teams in the workplace like they do with the athletes?

The Organising Committee oversees the operational aspects of anti-doping efforts for the Olympic Games protecting their physical and mental health while defending the values championed by sport and competition. Paris 2024 chose to work with the French anti-doping agency (AFLD), an independent public authority responsible for implementing actions to combat doping in France.

A key element of the AFLD report that all employers could consider when adopting their own policy is ‘supporting athletes also means listening to them, ensuring that tests go as smoothly as possible, explaining procedures and continuing to work with those who have been sanctioned throughout the duration of their suspension.’

Considering what that might look like for your workplace can help fine tune your own internal drug and alcohol testing policy.
