HLTPAT005 Collect Specimens for Drugs of Abuse Testing
Nationally recognised this course is intended for students who are required to perform onsite Drug and Alcohol Testing. It is designed to ensure correct procedures are followed when performing onsite testing including preparing and packaging a specimen for laboratory testing.
Outline – provides the skills and knowledge required to confirm collection requirements, to prepare the client and equipment to collect specimens following the special procedures that apply for drugs of abuse testing.
Duration – students have up to 60 days from enrolment to complete – the course includes:
- Online Theory and Training (10 hours)
- Written Assessment (2 hours)
- Video Conferencing Component (1.5 hours)
Delivery – delivered with a combination of online theory and Microsoft Teams practical training and assessment sessions at your individual workplace.
Cost – $760
Pathways – provides students with the required skills and knowledge required to work in environments where drugs of abuse testing takes place including workplaces, collection centers, hospitals and health care environments.
Entry Requirements – for the student to successfully complete the course the following is required:
- AS3547:2019 Approved Breath Tester
- A computer
- Access to a reliable internet connection (Wifi)
A Statement of Attainment is provided to all students who successfully complete all components of this nationally recognised course (HLTPAT005 Collect Specimens for Drugs of Abuse Testing). Students also receive a Statement of Attainment card to display when completing testing.

To enrol, please supply a copy of your initial Statement of Attainment. Due to the training nature of this course, RPL or Credit Transfer is not offered for this unit.
