We have all been there at some point. In that lengthy line of cars waiting for the Police RBT. As we get to the front: your number plate is checked, your licence is checked; that innocent question of “have you had anything to eat or drink recently Ma’am?” and then the breathalyser is offered up with somehow simple, yet at the same time complex instructions on how to blow; how hard to blow, how long to blow for; … “wait, wot, … do I wait for a beep or not??”.
At an RBT the sense of mild panic is obvious, even in the many cases when there is no need for alarm – the donor has not consumed anything of concern and will pass the breath test with flying colours. But even so, let’s be honest here, who doesn’t doubt themselves or their partner when you are waiting in line and even – did we renew the rego or not??
