Behind the Scenes of Aviation Safety – CASA’s Mission
Have you ever wondered what goes into ensuring your flight is safe? Not just mechanically, but in terms of the people responsible for getting you to your destination?
While aircraft undergo rigorous maintenance and safety checks, there’s another critical layer of protection, Drug and Alcohol Testing for aviation personnel. This ensures that anyone performing Safety Sensitive Aviation Activities (SSAAs), from pilots and cabin crew to ground handlers and refuellers; are fit for duty.
Alcolizer Technology is a trusted provider to CASA for fast, accurate, and reliable drug and alcohol testing solutions. With over 35 years of experience and NATA accreditation, we play a vital role in helping aviation organisations meet their obligations under CASA’s Civil Aviation Safety Regulations (CASR) Part 99.
CASA’s Testing Framework
Under Part 99 of CASR, there are two types of testing:
-
- CASA Testing (subpart 99C) unannounced, random testing conducted by CASA inspectors at aerodromes and other airside locations.
-
- Employer Testing (subpart 99B) conducted by aviation organisations as part of their Drug and Alcohol Management Plan (DAMP).
Anyone performing or available to perform SSAAs can be tested, including flight and cabin crew, maintenance personnel, aircraft dispatchers, aviation security staff, refuellers, ground handlers and anyone working airside.
