Victoria Police recently conducted a significant safety blitz, Operation Radihus, targeting high-risk driving behaviors on the Hume Freeway. This operation, held on March 21 and 22, saw police establish major checkpoints at Glenrowan Rest Area and Bentons Hill Rest Area. The initiative aimed to enhance road safety, enforce road rules, and deter dangerous driving through high-visibility enforcement.

• Extensive Testing: Police conducted 4,900 preliminary breath tests and 584 roadside drug tests, resulting in 3 drink driving and 19 drug driving offences.
• Heavy Vehicle Checks: NHVR Safety and Compliance Officers carried out roadside checks on heavy vehicles, focusing on issues such as fatigue and mechanical defects, while also providing education and advice to drivers.
• Overall Offences: A total of 450 offences were detected, including 22 alcohol and drug-impaired drivers.

Regional and state highway patrol units saturated the freeway across the Wangaratta and Wodonga Police service areas, demonstrating a strong commitment to improving road safety. The operation’s success underscores the importance of such initiatives in maintaining safe driving conditions and reducing road incidents
