Efficiency and accuracy are paramount when it comes to workplace safety, particularly with drug and alcohol testing. One unique feature of our LE5, HH3 and HH4 breathalysers is the ability to seamlessly switch between passive and standard (active) testing.
This dual functionality not only provides quicker, more efficient testing but also ensures comprehensive testing without the need for multiple devices.
Passive Testing Mode
Passive alcohol testing is designed for rapid screening to verify if alcohol is present, making it ideal for fast processing of employees with minimal disruption and resource utilisation. From a workplace health and safety perspective, passive testing confirms workers are alcohol-free before starting a shift and eliminates the need for mouthpieces or straws, reducing costs and environmental impact.
Passive breathalysers collect a breath sample when an individual blows onto the device from a short distance, with no direct contact. The device uses an internal pump to draw in ambient air and analyse for alcohol presence, providing a simple positive or negative result.
For police, passive testing means motorists can be quickly screened and moved on, minimising traffic disruption and resource drain. In industrial settings, passive testing ensures workers are ready to safely commence their duties on time and in line with workplace policies.
Standard (Active) Testing Mode
Standard (active) testing provides a Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC) reading to determine the presence and level of alcohol in someone’s breath.
Alcolizer HH3, HH4 and LE5 all provide standard and passive testing, with the ability to quickly interchange between the testing modes. Many organisations have benefited from utilising both modes to speed up testing processes and improve workplace safety.
Passive Testing in the Workplace
Passive testing is highly sensitive and can detect even trace amounts of alcohol in the surrounding air. If alcohol is detected, a second test is performed after a specified waiting period to confirm the initial finding, as outlined in AS 3547:2019.
In addition to our handheld devices, for high volume industrial use, our Centurion Zero offers passive-only testing to effectively manage site entry and testing prior to commencing work.
By implementing passive and standard testing modes, you can enhance workplace safety and compliance. Our high-quality drug and alcohol testing solutions are trusted by the many industries, including construction, mining, health, transport, law enforcement, within Australia and internationally.
