Safe Work Australia’s – SafeTea Month

It all starts with a conversation was the theme for Safe Work Australia’s national safe work month activity. SafeTea brings workplaces together to discuss work health & safety over a cuppa.

Our team nationwide enjoyed our SafeTea (daylight savings meant some were enjoying morning tea while others afternoon tea) but together we had the opportunity to share discussions about workplace safety.

Prior to the event staff were encouraged to complete an online survey to provide feedback and voice any safety concerns. At Alcolizer Technology we have a safety committee in place however the SafeTea provided an opportunity to not only bring everyone together but to remind them of our safety protocols and an opportunity to discuss any concerns.

An area we recently addressed that had been identified as a potential hazard was unauthorised entry to our Perth premises. We recently installed a permanent lock to the front door, issuing all employees an RFID card to access the building. This front staff access point now ensures the building is secure and provides a record of staff in and out activity to our HR department as well. Of course at the entry is our breathalyser as well ensuring staff are checking their blood alcohol limit before coming onto the premises.

Some ideas and suggestions for our safety committee to consider going forward was an onboarding ergonomics assessment that ensures all work stations are setup correctly. Providing fruit and healthy snacks for staff and an emergency discrete feminine product box in the lady’s toilet.

Thank you Safe Work Australia for the initiative our team really enjoyed the event particularly joining nationwide proved to be a great team building experience.
