No Excuse for Innocent Lives

Industry News & Updates

Driving at more than twice the speed limit and registering a blood alcohol reading of 0.183 is absolutely not ok! This behaviour puts innocent lives at risk and has devastating consequences for everyone involved. There is no excuse! Plan ahead, order an uber, don’t take your vehicle with you if you’re going to be drinking and can’t be trusted. A 24-year-old’s family will never see their daughter again because of somebody’s split decision in Perth last month. The ripple effects of drunk driving extend far beyond the immediate crash – they shatter families, end promising young lives, and leave communities grieving. It’s important we talk about this to STOP it happening and create greater awareness about responsible choices.

Also in recent Perth news was a major blitz in Northbridge where police charged 50 people for drink driving, with some reporting three times over the limit. The operation locked down the streets of Northbridge with five deployment locations set up as part of a major crackdown on drink and drug driving. These alarming numbers show that drink driving remains a serious issue – the fact so many were caught indicates how prevalent drink driving still is. As part of the operation, a further nine people were charged with not wearing a seatbelt, six people were caught using a mobile phone and five people were charged with no authority to drive.

According to the ABC, a man has been charged with manslaughter and causing grievous bodily harm after the fatal car crash on Saturday night that killed a 24-year-old woman and seriously injured a rideshare driver. This tragic incident demonstrates that poor decisions around drinking and driving can be made by anyone, regardless of their profession or standing in society. Dr Bellinge was allegedly travelling at more than twice the speed limit immediately before the crash, and registered a blood alcohol reading of 0.183 – a level that severely impairs judgment and reaction time.

There’s no excuse for putting innocent lives at risk.
