Clarity matters in drug testing, but not all brands or manufacturers are transparent about their products. There is one commonly misunderstood phrase that should be cause for concern when choosing a supplier: “Designed in alignment.”
When you see this regarding products that should meet Australian Standards, it sounds reassuring – like the product is built to meet the standard and will perform accordingly.
Here’s the catch: Products that are only “designed in alignment” with the standard, are not independently certified to meet that standard.
It means the product follows the guidelines and principles of a standard; for example, AS/NZS 4760:2019 for oral fluid drug testing. However, this does not mean that the product has undergone formal third-party certification or accreditation – meaning you have to take the manufacturer’s word for how well it adheres to standards.
Certification means the product has been formally assessed by a recognised body. Certified products have passed compliance testing across multiple drug groups. This certification process ensures the drug test meets legal and safety standards.
